UNKNOWN BEAUTIES OF THE NORTH

The Northwest Territories has three biomes – tundra, taiga and cordilleran. Often described as barren and harsh, they have become human landscapes as sources of our identity, enjoyment, inspiration and sustenance.

Landscape Architects have an important role in understanding the landscapes and cultures of the NWT, using the sense of place to better inform the design process. Our landscapes are extensive and our population sparse. Our work is often in natural settings. We also use our understanding of nature within our urban work.

Whether the setting is urban, recreational or wilderness, we have made a commitment to the recognition, valuation, protection, planning using sustainable design practices and management of our northern landscapes.

The images selected for the Portfolio are just a few examples of the many beauties of the North.
